We love our local farms as much as you do.
- Today, we know that only about 2% of funds spent on produce in North Carolina’s public schools is for produce grown in North Carolina.
- North Carolina’s agricultural sector is the state’s largest economic driver and largest employer, and yet many schools are not able to put as many local products as they would like on their menus because their budgets are very tight.
Farm to school helps farms.
- Between 2007 and 2017, North Carolina lost 5,113 farms. These are our families and neighbors.
- Institutions can be consistent, predictable, and even large markets for farms.
Buying food from local farmers keeps money in our communities. Let’s help make it easy for schools to buy local.
